Baba ghanoush

Updated: Aug 9, 2021

If you love eggplant or smokey flavours, you have to try this recibe out. Baba ghanoush is a very common appetizer in Libanese Kitchen that amazes everyone with intense savory flavors and smooth consistency. We could practically say that baba ghanoush is a not well known eggplant hummus. Here's my recipe for a perfect baba ghanoush and some ideas other than appetizer.

Ingredients

  • 1 Eggplant

  • 2 garlic cloves

  • 1/2 onion

  • 1 lime

  • 3tbsp of tahini

  • Salt and Pepper

  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil

  1. Roast the eggplant with direct llame until cooked. Trust me on this one, it makes a huge difference. Place your eggplant directly on the stove and let it roast. Turn it every 2-3 minutes until its completely cooked. You'll know when you can easily insert a fork through the whole eggplant. This process should take about 15 minutes.

  2. Cut the top off, with two forks peel half of the eggplant, cut it in half, and remove the tiny seeds.

  3. In a blender place the eggplant and the rest of the ingredients, except for the olive oil.

  4. Once smoothly blended, keep mixing while slowly incorporating the olive oil

  5. Serve it with some parsley and olive oil

Ideas

Although it is widely eaten as an appetizer with some pita bread and raw veggies, it's flavor is so special that in my opinion we would be restricting our tastes buds, if we were only to use it as an entrée. You can use it :

As a dressing : When eating salad, you can serve it as a dressing or by the side to have some variety to you usual salad dressing.

As pasta sauce: Sometimes we get bored from the classic tomato sauce pasta. Upgrade your dinner with some baba ghanoush pasta, using it as sauce. You might have to use mor eggplants in order to make more sauce.

As Toast spread: If there's hummus and avocado toast, why not make a baba ghanush toast on the mornings. Who's with me? Try it out. Use the baba ghanoush to spread it over some bread adding your favorite toppings as well.

As Snack on the go: Last but not least, if you don't know what to snack throughout your day, some carrots, celery and baba ghanoush may take you out of the daily routine.
